Ilex x altaclerensis 'Golden King' is the best known and most popular golden-variegated holly, with broad, matt, deep green, mainly spineless leaves. The fantastic evergreen golden variegated foliage makes an excellent provider of garden colour whatever the weather, particularly in the winter months. In spite of its name, a female variety, with reasonable crops of red berries, if pollinated by a male holly nearby. Makes a fine free-standing specimen, screen or hedge.
